I'm under this dilemma at the moment, im taking a non branded bag to my new job but its starting to get damaged, it has emotional value for me so i dont want to destroy it. Im abroad and all I have with me is a Fendi and a Dior totes, they are perfect in size to fit work stuff, but I feel unckmfortable with the thought of taking them, as in a short period since starting this new job Ive received a few comments about my watch, and the worse, 2 people came ask ne straight forward if it was a fake... it made me feel so awkward. In both cases I just took ut off and put it in their hands. I feel silly to go spend money on a random bag ( the country Im in everything is expensive, so you will pay very good money for even a non leather bag, but after the watch situations I think it would be really bad to take designer bags.

I totally agree not a good idea to bring designer bags to work I was an office manager and owner an an employee had a designer bag that look like it belonged in a museum it was so special and she was being judged by others so sad

I'm sorry maybe England is different by in America, you wear anything expensive you will be judged and treated badly. My rule is nothing expensive at work, wear your JCPenney, Walmart, Macy or Dillards gear that looks good. Wear your expensive things on the weekend in areas you won't run into your coworkers. People lie and they are envious and don't want to see you do well at work. 1. If you have a female boss or female supervisor don't wear anything with luxury they will watch you and they are jealous of you and will block your progress. 2. If you are in a low entry level job don't wear anything expensive. 3. If you are a member of a minority group don't wear anything expensive else you won't get a promotion in the future.' 4. Only if you are Upper Management or an Executive should you wear something small and luxurious. 5. If you wear your nonbrand luxury and someone ask, always laugh and deny what you are really wearing. Say Oh no how much money do you think I am making, laugh it off and never let coworkers know what you are wearing they are all FAKE at work. The jealousy can effect your salary, they will say you don't need a raise and tell Upper Managers.

I use longchamp bags for work. They take a beating and can be easily washed. They are not particularly expensive either.

That happened to me too!! A manager from another department asked me in front of everyone very loudly, how do you afford all of this? I ignored her the first time and brushed it away, but she asked again woth more attitude, then I told her if it was any of her business then she'd know. She never asked me again after and everyone was clapping me for standing up to her rude behavior

My husband (then boyfriend) bought me a basic clack coach purse, it was from the outlet so a little over $100. My boss and coworker acted as though I was rolling in money. She bought a Mercedes and I have a Honda but that coach bag made my boss annoyed. He didn’t want to give me a raise a few months later when it was my yearly raise time. A friggen coach bag! My boss had a Lexus and a house, I rented a studio, it was so small yet somehow he acted like I was making too much, I was barely able to pay basic bills. Uhg. I wish I had an experience like your second. My boss saw a picture of me online and there was a box of playing cards and he said, you’re wasting your money on things like that! Just buy coach bags to use for work. I know it sucks not being able to enjoy our luxury bags on a daily basis but unfortunately there are a lot of jealous people everywhere

I think social media does encourage unnecessary spending. I used to watch a lot of luxury unboxing and thought it was so nice to see how excited people were with their new purchase. But it’s become so excessive that I lost interest in luxury. I still love watching it occasionally and I still have a few things I want to add to my collection but once I get them I will be very content and probably won’t buy luxury items 😊 I really agree with everything you said. Also as I get older I really do value experience over material things.

I never thought of the way coworkers would react to you carrying a designer bag. Thank goodness I don’t work in the office anymore because I would definitely be tempted to wear a nice bag. I’m sorry you had these types of experiences 😢

I love these. I just bought a new MacBook Pro and they changed the sizes. Nothing fits this massive 16” device. I want a nice bag that’s not flashy that fits for work.

I agree on not bringing loud luxury items to work in case it bothers some people. You dont need more enemies, one is too many, esp petty and insecure ones.

I own designer bags only. I don’t own any non branded …as I handed or sold all of them. So I wear only designer to the office. Won’t lie …sometimes I feel quite uncomfortable as I know ppl are looking, but i learnt not to care that much. However many of my colleagues don’t recognize designer if it’s not LV. I prefer wearing Ferragamo bags as they are more under the radar, but sometimes I take YSL or my Gucci from Alessandro Michele era which is quite flashy. Never heard anybody say anything..not once. But maybe they do say something behind my back…I’m not from the UK, but work out of the London office here and there.

When we got our Mercedes, there were a few comments from colleagues (not bosses)! What they didn't know was that it was an ex company car from my husband's workplace, and after 3 years, they sold these cars to employees for what they would get from a car dealer, so all in all, a good deal. What my colleagues were unaware of was at the same time we bought a BMW Z4 coupe (it's an older version from 2007, but looks very classic). We paid cash for both, and the Mercedes will be with us for the foreseeable (it's 9 years old now), we could change our cars more regularly, but choose not to, so we're not paying more for our cars than the average Joe! Living in Denmark, there's this thing called "Jante's Law," which basically means that nobody is better than anybody else! I dont think a designer bag (or more expensive car) would harm my promotion prospects, as my bosses want the most qualified person, and while we're not best buddies or anything we have a brilliant working relationship. I probably wouldn't take my Gucci to work, but I have taken my Loewe Puzzle, but mostly, I use a smart backpack as it holds all of what I need on a daily basis. And funnily enough, one of our students has a Chloe Woody, I wonder if I'm the only person who's spotted it!

I work in a countryside office and wear my designer stuff there. It seems nobody pays attention, probably because they lack visible logos or have very subtle ones-only those who know recognize them. But when I occasionally visit the head office, I get the attention. I won't let their opinions affect me because I've earned my success through hard work and deserve it. On another note, I highly recommend the Toteme T lock clutch; although it's become quite popular lately, it's perfect for office use and has an excellent quality.

The long champ tote is the perfect work bag I never take a designer bag to the airport because I have noticed TSA employees seem to pick them out for extra security search. Probably jealous

I’ve lost 2 jobs because of my luxury handbags. One job, my manager carried a fake LV Neverfull in the traditional monogram. Mine is real. She sat her purse on my desk as she waited on me to arrive one morning. I walked up and casually sat my purse down as I log into my computer. I then realize her Neverfull is sitting right beside mine. I immediately see hers is fake and before I can even move my purse to my cabinet, she says …. “Oh, I see you have the real thing. Not like my little fake one, huh?” I was a contractor at this company. And sure enough, when I left work that day, the staffing agency called and said the company no longer needed me. The other job I lost was a lay that loved luxury but bought all knockoffs cause she couldn’t afford real handbags. When I started and she saw I loved luxury, too, but had all real handbags …. she instantly hated me. Turned an entire department against me with lies and rumors. This went on for 6 months until I resigned. She and a circle of women stopped speaking to me at work. She 2s trying to recruit more women to join in with her in the department across from her. I resigned before I even found a new job to go to because I got so tired of it. Thankfully, I found my current job 2 months later and didn’t have to run thru all my savings. I know firsthand how jealous and envious women are in the workplace when you have nice things. I currently work in the chief deputy’s office of the company I work in and she loves Chanel and Gucci. That’s all she carries and wears. So, she doesn’t care about what I carry at all. She loves that I love fashion and luxury, too. But still, I do not carry my Hermes Kelly, Diors, Fendi, YSL, Goyards, or Chanels. I only carry my LV Neverfull, Alma, Speedy, and Pochette Metis. I’ve learned these classic LV handbags aren’t offensive because ause they’re attainable. So, women don’t get real jealous about them.

Yes sometimes we have to be really more sensitive to ppl around us. I know it sucks, and some ppl may say who cares what others think? But really, it matters. I work in a bank and during 2008 financial crisis, my manager literally told us to leave designer items at home. Don't rub salt into the wound when ppl are already losing money, they won't feel good to see the banker in designer.
